Connection Builds Winning Teams

Want to build a winning team, in sport, at work, or at home? Start here.

I spoke at The King’s School Football season launch last Friday night. I’ve been working with their 1st XI and coaches, supporting the Director of Football as they raise the standards, systems and culture of their program, not just to compete, but to belong at a higher level.

The theme? Connection.

Not just among players and coaches, but parents too. Because the best teams don’t just focus on capability. They focus on connection in equal measure.

It’s easy to train skill. But connection is what makes those skills count.

It’s what builds trust, empathy, respect, and belonging so people feel safe enough to perform.

Not just athletes, but any team member.

That includes us as men.....as dads, coaches, leaders, mates.

Because connection doesn’t mean soft. It means strong. Solid. Accountable.

It takes self-control. It takes flexibility.

And it starts with understanding someone else's world, even when they’re not at their best.

Real connection lifts everyone.

So if you want to lead better teams, raise more grounded kids, and win more in whatever arena you’re in, then remember:

– Understand others before judging

– Take a genuine interest in who they are

– Look for the good

– Empower before correcting

The more connected you are, the more capable you become....as a team, as a father, as a man.

What does connection look like in your world right now?

👇 I’d love to hear your take.
