The Curse of the High Performer

Ever had that feeling where you’ve hit the goals… but it still doesn’t feel like enough?

I once spoke with a guy who told me he was sitting at his kitchen table, looking at his bank statement....more money than he’d ever had, and all he could think was:

“I just wanted to top myself.”

Not because he was ungrateful.

Because he’d been chasing success with everything he had….and it still didn’t feel satisfying.

That feeling isn’t rare.

I see it all the time—in business leaders, elite coaches, athletes, founders.

They’re getting results, performing at a high level, and yet, there’s this quiet weight.

This sense that no matter what they do, they should be doing more.

Here’s what I’ve noticed:

Success without the right measures, the right environment, and the right support doesn’t land the way you want it to.

One of the biggest breakthroughs I see is when people start to recognise their real value.

Not the job title or the letters after their name.

But their true credentials. The unique way they show up, lead, connect, and deliver. The stuff only they can do.

And when they look back at the times they’ve truly thrived, there’s usually one thing in common:

They were supported. Backed. Trusted.

They weren’t carrying it all alone.

So if you’re pushing hard, achieving plenty, but still feeling like it’s not enough, maybe it’s not about working harder.

Maybe it’s time to rethink how you’re measuring success,

And to make sure you’ve got the right people and structure around you.

If this resonates, I’d love to know:

Where have you felt the “curse” of the high performer in your life or work?

What’s helped you shift it?

Let’s go there....it’s the kind of conversation that could help someone else too.
